Lesson Plans

LP1 Making Pinch Pots

Students make small bowls, using the pinch technique, with emphasis on understanding how the thickness will affect the firing process.

LP2 Making Coil Pots

Students again make bowls, but in this project they learn how to use clay coils to construct a three-dimensional container and are introduced to slab construction for the bottom of the pot. They also learn techniques for making clay parts stick together.

LP3 Slab Construction

Students make square boxes using the slab method of construction.

LP4 Creative Project

Students can choose to make another pot using a construction method they have learned before, make tiles, or design a whimsical sculpture.

LP5 and LP6 Glazing

Students glaze all their projects.

LP7 Discussing Finished Work

Students look at the pieces that have been fired and discuss how construction and glazing techniques affected the finished product.
